You may be wondering what is AVID?
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a college preparatory program that helps students learn the skills necessary to take college preparatory classes in high school with the eventual outcome of attending a four-year college.
AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID students have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. Typically, they are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential, they may be the first in their families to attend college or underrepresented in the college system. AVID pulls these students out of their unchallenging courses and puts them on the college track: acceleration instead of remediation.
